QMJHL Draft Prospects: Desgagnés, St-Laurent & Desruisseaux
Today we take a closer look at the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth ranked players in this year’s QMJHL Draft. All three of today’s prospects are forwards coming from the QMAAA.
#15: Mathieu Desgagnés
Mathieu played this past season with the Châteauguay Grenadiers of the QMAAA and is considered a very versatile forward. He is agile, and with his good hockey sense is able to find his teammates easily on the ice, as a result, producing a lot of points. The 16 year old was born in Verdun, QC this was his first season in the QMAAA where he recorded an impressive 49 points in 42 games (20 goals and 29 assists). He is projectd to be a good points producer and is a versatile player.
#16: Édouard St-Laurent
This 15 year old is an offensive centerman with great speed and hockey sense. This past season Édouard played for the Lévis Commandeurs of the QMAAA, and also was on the Quebec team at this year’s U-16 tournament. Registering at 6’0 and weighing 157lbs he was a great asset to his team this year, both on the power play and penalty kill with both his speed and quick hands. In 42 games this year with Lévis, Édouard recorded 7 goals and 12 assists for a total of 19 points in the regular season.
#17: Cédric Desruisseaux
Coming in at number seventeen in this year’s Central Scouting List is Cédric Desruisseaux, although he may be small, this 5’7 forwards skills make up for his size. He is a good 200 foot player, smart with the puck, and has great vision and skill. He had regular minutes on the power play with the Trois-Rivières Estacades this year of the QMAAA. Playing in 45 games this year Cédric recorded 16 goals and 25 assists for a 41 point season total, tying him for leading scorer on the team. During the playoffs he was also able to add nine points in six games.
