Lewiston gets 4-3 shoot-out win

The Moncton Wildcats and Lewiston MAINEiacs battled for 65 minutes and were unable to decide a winner on Friday night at the Coliseum. Lewiston finally got the victory in a shoot-out 4-3.

The MAINEiacs’ Lucas LaBelle scored the only goal of the first period at 13:09, it was unassisted.

The Wildcats evened the game at 10:15 of the second period with Zach Sill’s 13th of the season from Matt Boyle and Devon MacAusland. Just over a minute later at 11:23, Matt Eagles netted his 21st of the year, a power play goal with Mark Barberio getting the assist.

The MAINEiacs tied the game at 08:48 of the third on Patrick Cusack’s shot from the blueline, Stefan Chaput and Eric Gelinas got the helpers. Eagles with his second of the night restored the Wildcat lead at 14:32 with Jess Biduke setting up the play. The lead was short lived when LaBelle scored his second of the game at 15:13 from Alexander Beaton and Michael Ward.

The five minute overtime period failed to produce a winner. Both teams failed to score on the first two shoot out chances. Stefano Giliati beat Cats goaltender Charlie Lavigne on the third try and Mark Baraberio’s effort to even the count was foiled by Lewiston’s Peter Delmas.

Shots on goal were 29-28 in favor of the Wildcats. On the power play, Moncton was 1 for 5 while Lewiston was 0 for 3.

Matt Eagles was named the game’s first star, Lucas LaBelle got the nod as the second star and Zach Sill was star number 3.

Next home game for the Wildcats will be on February 20th. They play two games on the road, meeting the Saint John Sea Dogs next Wednesday and the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles on the 17th.
