Cats finish perfect opening weekend with OT thriller
The Wildcats posted their second straight road ‘Home Opener’ victory Saturday night in Halifax edging the Mooseheads 6-5 in overtime before a large crowd of 8,100 fans at Scotiabank Centre.
Rian Chudzinski scored the powerplay overtime winner at 2:12 for his second of the night. Niko Tournas found his scoring touch with three goals including one shorthanded. Tournas enjoyed a 43-goal season in 2025-2026.
Charlie Benigno added the other Moncton goal and ex-Moosehead Liam Kilfoil set up three goals, giving the Quispamsis veteran five points in both weekend contests.
Cats goaltender Jacoby Weiner was sensational with 33 saves, the Wildcats made the most of their chances with 17 shots at Jack Fichthorn.

The ‘home openers’ continue Friday night in Saint John against the Sea Dogs at TD Station before returning to the Avenir Centre Saturday night at 7pm. for Moncton’s 31st home opener against the Charlottetown Islanders.
