GAME RECAP: Titan avoid late scare to beat Foreurs 6-4
There were no shortage of goals Friday night when the Acadie-Bathurst Titan hosted the Val-d’Or Foreurs for the first time this season. The Titan pulled away with a 6-4 win in front of a roaring home crowd at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
Bathurst was the first to throw points on the board. Maddex Marmulak took a Blake Pilgrim-Edwards pass before ripping home his third goal of the season to put the home team up one. Just two minutes later, David-Alexandre Coulombe made his way through the defense to put in his fourth goal of the year. With just over seven minutes to play, the Titan were on the penalty kill when Pilgrim-Edwards made no mistake on the breakaway as he tucked his fourth of the season, five-hole past Cédric Massé to give the home team a three-goal lead.
Val d’Or would add a goal late to cut the lead to two. After one period, the Titan were up 3-1.
The second intermission saw no goals. Bathurst held their two-goal lead.
Acadie-Bathurst had to face some adversity as Alexandre Guy and Alexis Fortin scored for Val-d’Or early in the second period to tie the game for the road team. Just over a minute after losing the lead, Will Reynolds scored his second of the season to put the Titan back on top. Halfway through the final frame, Phillipe Veilleux beat a screened Josh Fleming to knot the game again. Driving the net and joining the offense, Noah Laberge chipped a hard shot past Massé. The goal counted after video review, putting Bathurst ahead once again. Dawson Sharkey would capitalize on a Foreurs turnover to give Bathurst back the two-goal lead. Despite the eventful third period, Bathurst would hold on to secure the 6-4 victory at home. Fleming made 30 saves for the win.
Marmulak was named the third star after a two-point effort. Pilgrim-Edwards, after a three-point night, earned the first star.
