GAME RECAP: Huggan nets pair of goals in win over Mooseheads
Acadie-Bathurst downed the Mooseheads Thursday night in front of a packed crowd at Scotiabank Centre. The Titan finished the night with a 2-0 shutout victory over the home team in front of a 7,099 Mooseheads fans.
The win is on the heels of Sunday’s 5-2 victory over the Cape Breton Eagles on the road in Sydney. With back-to-back wins, the Titan (26-27-3-3) continue to anchor the 11th spot in league standings.
Meanwhile, Thursday night neither team found the back of the net in the first 40 minutes of Q-league action.
When the buzzer sounded to begin the final frame, Louis-François Bélanger and Yannik Ponzetto got the puck to Colby Huggan, who opened scoring at the 3:23 minute mark.
Bathurst maintained the lead throughout the third, with Halifax pulling Mathis Rousseau from the net at 19:03 in hopes of tying the game. Huggan crushed that dream after securing his second goal of the night on the empty net at 19:40 to win the match.
Huggan earned the third Star of the Game for his pair of goals in Bathurst’s win, with Rousseau bringing home the second star for saving 32 of the Titan’s 33 shots on goal. Antoine Keller picked up the win in net for Bathurst and was named the first star for stopping all 25 of Halifax’s shots on goal.
Acadie-Bathurst is home this weekend as they host Donovan Arseneault and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar Saturday, and the Cape Breton Eagles, Sunday at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
Baie-Comeau (47-8-2-1) is first throughout league standings and currently on a three-game road swing throughout the Maritimes. The Drakkar declawed the Wildcats 5-1 Thursday at the Avenir Centre and will faceoff with the Sea Dogs tonight at TD Station.
Bathurst is the third and final stop before travelling home.
The two teams have faced off once to date this season, with Baie-Comeau beating Acadie-Bathurst 3-1 on Dec. 8, 2023, at Centre Henry-Leonard. The Drakkar are 9-0-0-1 in their last 1 0 games, while the Titan are 3-6-0-1. The Titan are 13-13-2-1 at home and Baie-Comeau is 22-6-0-1 on the road.
Puck drops at 4 p.m. tomorrow at the K.C. Irving Regional Centre.
