VINCENT SÉVIGNY NAMED SEA DOGS CAPTAIN
Complete leadership group for the 2021-2022 season named.
The Saint John Sea Dogs are proud to announce the leadership group for the 2021-2022 season.
Vincent Sévigny has been named the 19th captain in team history. The 20-year-old defenseman is in his fourth season in the QMJHL and won the 2021 President Cup with the Victoriaville Tigres. He has been an assistant captain for three seasons and brings extensive experience including 30 QMJHL playoff games.
“It’s an honour to be the captain of the Saint John Sea Dogs” said Sévigny. “It’s a Memorial Cup year and we are on a mission. I want everyone to know it.”
Sévigny has attended NHL Training Camps with the LA Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Ottawa Senators. The Quebec City native has 40 points in 41 games this season.
“Vincent brings professionalism to the group and has valuable experience having won last season” said Sea Dogs Head Coach Gordie Dwyer. “There are a lot of qualified leaders that have been identified within our group and Vincent has certainly earned the respect of his teammates and taken on important responsibilities since entering our environment.”
Sévigny will be the first captain for the franchise since Nicolas Guay in the 2019-2020 season.
The leadership group also includes three assistant captains: forward Riley Bezeau, forward Philippe Daoust, and defenseman William Villeneuve.
“Vincent and the rest of the leadership group are deserving of the opportunity to lead this team” said Sea Dogs President & General Manager, Trevor Georgie. “He, along with the rest of the leadership group each individually, bring important qualities and rich experiences. They have different leadership styles and different voices, and will complement and support one another.”
Villeneuve, a 19-year-old Toronto Maple Leafs prospect, was selected 2nd overall by the Sea Dogs in 2018 and has been an assistant captain of the Sea Dogs for three seasons. He has 136 points in 195 regular season games and 6 points in 6 QMJHL playoff games.
Bezeau, a 19-year-old Saint John native, was selected in the 12th round by the Sea Dogs in 2018. He has been an assistant captain since the beginning of the season and has 5 points in 6 QMJHL playoff games.
Daoust, a 20-year-old Ottawa Senators prospect, was acquired in a trade with the Moncton Wildcats earlier this year. He spent the first half of the season in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Belleville Senators and has registered 22 points in 17 games since joining the Sea Dogs. He was an assistant captain with the Wildcats last season.
