RECAP: Sea Dogs comeback comes up short in Charlottetown
CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. – The Saint John Sea Dogs came from behind twice to force overtime, but couldn’t finish it off against the Charlottetown Islanders despite Rafaël Courchesne stopping 30 shots Monday night.
The Islanders struck first when Jabez Seymour buried Tyler Peddle’s initial shot at 5:45 of the first. Alex Donovan tied it 1-1 midway through the period, ripping a one-timer past Donald Hickey. Charlottetown outshot Saint John 11-9 after one, with Courchesne making multiple key saves.
Saint John grabbed a 2-1 lead 53 seconds into the second when Matthew Krayer’s shot redirected off an Islanders player and into the net. Ross Campbell knotted it 2-2 on a wrist shot from in tight at 9:33, and Charlottetown regained the lead when C.J. Watroba finished a pass from Campbell on the odd-man rush. The period ended with the Islanders up 3-2.
Justin Gendron tied the game 3-3 at 1:44 of the third after Hickey misplayed the puck behind his net. Saint John outshot Charlottetown 15-9 in the third, but the game headed to overtime. Tyler Peddle scored the winner at 1:36 of overtime.
