RECAP: Rough start proves costly as Sea Dogs fall to Eagles
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – Elliot Dubé scored twice as the Saint John Sea Dogs fell 6–3 to the Cape Breton Eagles at TD Station in the second of back-to-back meetings between the two teams.
Eliot Litalien and Samuel Boyer scored two apiece for Cape Breton, while Xavier Daigle and Romain Litalien each added one.
Matthew Krayer had the other Saint John goal.
GAME SUMMARY
A Sea Dogs captain Olivier Groulx had a breakaway 11 minutes into the first, but was denied by Connor Towle.
At 14:38, Justin Robinson made two initial saves before Xavier Daigle beat him glove side. Four seconds later, Robinson was caught playing the puck and Eliot Litalien tucked it backdoor on a feed from Blake Burke. Cape Breton led 2–0 after one, outshooting Saint John 15-10.
Boyer capitalized on the power play 2:47 into the second. Three minutes later, Romain Litalien set up his brother, Eliot, for his second of the night. The Sea Dogs then made a goaltending change, with Rafaël Courchesne coming in.
Saint John got on the board at 7:40 when Dubé beat an unsuspecting Towle off a slick feed from Dylan Rozzi behind the net. The Eagles led 4-1 after two with the shots favouring Cape Breton 27-18.Just under four minutes into the third, Boyer beat Courchesne for his second of the game.
At the Saint John blue line, Krayer forced a turnover, streaked in alone, and ripped it glove side for his first of the season at 9:45.
With the goalie pulled for an extra skater, Dubé scored his second of the night on a fortunate deflection off an Eagles skate that floated over Towle.
Litalien sealed it with an empty-netter with 39 seconds remaining, giving Cape Breton a 6-3 win.
