RECAP: Peddle scores lone goal in loss to Sherbrooke
SHERBROOKE, QC – The Saint John Sea Dogs began a three-game road swing Friday night against the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Sherbrooke took an early lead and maintained that momentum throughout the game, ultimately handing the Sea Dogs a 6-1 defeat. The Sea Dogs record now sits at 7-6-0-0.
Tyler Peddle netted the only goal for Saint John, his team-leading seventh of the season.
Charles-Antoine Beauregard recorded a hat-trick for the Phoenix, with additional goals coming from Florent Houle, Étienne Giroux, and Hugo Primeau.
GAME SUMMARY
The Phoenix opened the scoring just over three minutes in when Louis-Alex Tremblay fired a low wrist shot from the point that was deflected by Charles-Antoine Beauregard, giving the Phoenix an early 1-0 lead at 3:13.
At 16:09, Tremblay picked up his second assist of the night as his shot from the point rebounded off Charles-Edward Gravel’s pad, and Florent Houle was there to bury it, putting Sherbrooke up by two. Not long after, at 18:05, Beauregard struck again, batting the puck between Gravel’s legs to extend the Phoenix’s lead to 3-0.
The Sea Dogs got on the board early in the second with powerplay goal from Tyler Peddle, who unleashed a bar-down snipe, beating Linards Feldbergs to make it 3-1. Zach Morin and Nate Tivey picked up the assists. Sherbrooke responded at 15:38 with a give-and-go play between Maxime Côté and Étienne Giroux, who scored to extend the Phoenix lead, 4-1.
Early in the third period, after a Sea Dogs turnover in their own end, Tremblay connected with Beauregard, who scored blocker side to complete his hat-trick at 6:44. Just 29 seconds later, Sherbrooke closed out the scoring as Primeau capitalized on a feed from Olivier Dubois and Félix Ouellet, securing the 6-1 victory.
