RECAP: Oceanic edge Sea Dogs after second-period surge
SAINT JOHN, N.B. – The Saint John Sea Dogs jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period Saturday night at TD Station, but the Rimouski Oceanic turned the tide in the second and never looked back.
Egan Beveridge opened the scoring for the Sea Dogs with his first of the year at 8:31 on a feed from captain Olivier Groulx, who extended his point streak to five games.
At 14:41, while shorthanded, Groulx stripped the puck from an Oceanic defenceman and went in alone, but was stopped by William Lacelle. Angelo Fullerton roofed Groulx’s rebound to make it 2-0. The period closed with the Dogs leading 2-0 and 13-9 in shots.
Lou Levesque sparked a second-period comeback for Rimouski with a breakaway goal at 10:26. The Oceanic tied it with less than two minutes left in the frame when Liam Lefebvre scored on a pass from Emile Duquet, then took the lead with 23 seconds remaining on a shorthanded marker by Alex Masse. After two, Saint John trailed 3-2 but led 24-19 on the shot clock.
With two minutes left, Zach Morin earned a penalty shot, but Lacelle shut the door as Rimouski held on for the 3-2 win.
