RECAP: Groulx nets hat trick in Sea Dogs win over Halifax
HALIFAX, NS – The Saint John Sea Dogs snapped a five-game losing skid with a 4-3 overtime win over the Halifax Mooseheads on Friday night at the Scotiabank Centre.
Olivier Groulx led the way offensively for the Sea Dogs recording his first career QMJHL hat-trick to bring his season total to 10. Meanwhile, Tyler Peddle buried his 10th goal of the season in overtime.
Shawn Carrier, Braeden MacPhee, and Owen Phillips were the goal scorers for the Mooseheads.
GAME SUMMARY
A Sea Dogs turnover in front of their net 3:26 into the first period led to a Mooseheads goal as Shawn Carrier fired a quick wrist shot past Charles-Édward Gravel.
At the 11:50 mark, Saint John’s William Yared took a shot that was tipped under Jacob Steinman’s arm by Olivier Groulx on the power play. Four minutes later, Quinn Kennedy’s rebound was put into the net by Braeden MacPhee on the man advantage, regaining the Mooseheads lead at 2-1. Before the end of the first, at 18:50, Groulx jammed the puck past Steinman from the side of the net, tying the game 2-2 after one period.
With 3.7 seconds remaining in the second period, Dylan Rozzi found Yared, who slid the puck to Groulx. Groulx completed his hat trick with a hard wrist shot to the glove side, giving the Sea Dogs the lead.
The Mooseheads responded six minutes into the third when Owen Phillips ripped a shot over Gravel’s shoulder, sending the game to overtime.
With less than a minute remaining in overtime and on the man advantage, Tyler Peddle buried a one-timer from Nate Tivey to secure the victory for the Sea Dogs.
