Historic Capital City Series brings CHL hockey to Fredericton for the first time
Saint John Sea Dogs to Play Three Regular Season Games at UNB’s Aitken Centre
FREDERICTON, N.B. – Three regular season Canadian Hockey League (CHL) games will be played in Fredericton, the Saint John Sea Dogs have announced. The Capital City Series presented by TD will bring CHL regular-season action to Fredericton for the first time. Three Sea Dogs home games will be played at the University of New Brunswick’s Aitken Centre between November 2025 and February 2026.
“This is a historic moment for hockey in New Brunswick,” said Trevor Georgie, President of the Saint John Sea Dogs. “Fredericton has deep hockey roots and a passionate fan base. We’re excited to bring elite junior hockey to the capital city and showcase some of the brightest young stars in the QMJHL.”
Capital City Series Schedule
- Game 1: November 30 vs. Cape Breton Eagles
- Game 2: January 8 vs. Gatineau Olympiques
- Game 3: February 1 vs. Baie-Comeau Drakkar
Strong Fredericton Connections
The Sea Dogs have a long history of connection to Fredericton, with numerous alumni who have gone on to play for the UNB Reds, including Mike Thomas and Peter Reynolds, both Fredericton natives.
Thomas, who captained the 2011 Memorial Cup-winning team, played his university hockey at UNB. Reynolds won the Memorial Cup in 2022 and served as team captain in 2023–24 before joining the Reds last season.
“The relationship between the Sea Dogs and UNB has been incredibly strong,” said Paul J. Mazerolle, President of the University of New Brunswick. “Many of our current and former Reds players came through the Sea Dogs program. This series celebrates that connection and gives our community a chance to see the best junior hockey in the world at the Aitken University Centre.”
Rising Stars and Championship Pedigree
The Capital City Series presented by TD will showcase some of the brightest young talent in Canadian hockey, led by 16-year-old rookie sensation Alexis Joseph. The first overall pick in the 2024 QMJHL Draft is projected to be the first overall selection in the 2027 NHL Draft.
The Sea Dogs also had six players participating in the QMJHL Prospects Game on October 21. This number is the highest participation rate of any team in the league, further demonstrating the elite talent on the roster.
Since winning their first championship in 2011, the Saint John Sea Dogs have secured two Memorial Cup titles (2011, 2022) and three President’s Cup championships (2011, 2012, 2017), underscoring the organization’s commitment to excellence.

With group sales already exceeding 60 per cent capacity for all three games, less than 1,000 tickets

On February 1st, a special game will be held to honour Fredericton’s extensive hockey history. The team will pay tribute to the Fredericton Canadiens by wearing special Canadiens jerseys for this event.
