SEA DOGS’ PROMOTIONS RAISE MORE THAN $6,700 FOR THE EMPTY STOCKING FUND
SAINT JOHN – The Saint John Sea Dogs are proud to announce two promotions at recent games have generated a donation to The Empty Stocking Fund totaling $6,788.60.
The Sea Dogs hosted the Val-d’Or Foreurs on Friday, November 29th, for Bingo Night at Harbour Station, supported by the Telegraph-Journal. Volunteers distributed bingo cards to fans in exchange for donations to The Empty Stocking Fund. They collected $2,048.20.
The team held its annual Teddy Bear Toss game against the Victoriaville Tigres on Friday, December 6th. While the stuffed animals were thrown on the ice early in the third period, staff and volunteers from Scotiabank – known as Change Bandits – worked their way through the upper and lower bowls of Harbour Station, accepting donations to The Empty Stocking Fund. They accumulated $2,370.20.
Through its game-night sponsorship, Scotiabank matched the Change Bandit total, adding another $2,370.20 to the overall contribution.
“This is another way for Scotiabank to partner with the Saint John Sea Dogs,” said Joe McGuire, Scotiabank branch manager, Brunswick Square. “Scotiabank employees from Saint John and area branches were pleased to participate in supporting our local hockey team, and at the same time raise money for a great cause.”
“The Empty Stocking Fund is so fortunate to have such great partnerships with all the members of the Sea Dogs organization, as well as with Scotiabank and their employees,” said Jill Whitaker, Coordinator of The Empty Stocking Fund. “All of the initiatives we worked on together this year were a tremendous success and the reason we are able to put smiles on the faces of over 2000 children this Christmas.”
Another donation is coming soon.
Fewer than fifty of the 2014 Sea Dogs Foundation calendars remain for sale in the city. They cost $10 each, and all proceeds go to The Empty Stocking Fund.
