Eddy officially recognized as emotional support dog
BATHURST – The Acadie-Bathurst Titan are proud to announce a new partnership with the Canadian Mental Health Association of New Brunswick, officially recognizing Eddy as an emotional support dog.
“As a community, it is important that we give recognition to the Acadie Bathurst Titan management for taking on this new initiative to protect their athletes, not only physically but mentally as well. This team is serving as a pioneer for promoting mental wellness in Major Junior hockey and should be applauded,” said Corey Ferguson, Program Coordinator with CMHA NB.
Eddy, a 12-week old French Bulldog, was adopted by the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and has been tasked with providing emotional support for their players. Eddy has no small job at hand, as student athletes cope with multiple psychological demands daily. He is already hard at work spreading joy with his rambunctious personality and slobbery kisses.
Eddy is a pioneer in his field. He is the first emotional support dog to be adopted by a team in the Canadian Hockey League. Eddy spends most of his day with the Titan players and is often found hanging out in the lunchroom with the players, or down in the dressing room trying to untie skates. In only a couple weeks time, Eddy’s impact is already being felt by the players. “Eddy brings a positive vibe into our locker room,” said third-year forward Logan Chisholm. “He’s calming and allows us to get a little down time during the day. Eddy’s the star of the show!”
In partnership with CMHA, we are paving the way to end the mental health stigma in student athletes.
