QMJHL announces finalists for Patrick-Roy Trophy
The virtual presentation of the Golden Puck Awards continues today with the finalists for the inaugural Patrick-Roy Trophy, awarded to the QMJHL’s Top Goaltender.
The finalists are:
Mathis Rousseau, Halifax Mooseheads
In his third QMJHL season, Rousseau led all League goaltenders with a save percentage of .925. He also finished second with a 2.27 goals-against-average and 31 wins (31-8-4-0). The netminder also earned five shutouts, good for third place in the Q. Rousseau was Team Canada’s starter at the latest World Junior Championship.
William Rousseau, Rouyn-Noranda Huskies
Rousseau made his mark by setting a QMJHL record with eight shutouts this season. He also dominated his peers with 34 wins (34-10-1-4) and a 2.24 GAA. He played in 50 games and had an impressive save percentage of .924, both good for second place in the league. This was Rousseau’s first season in Rouyn-Noranda after spending three years in Quebec City.
Samuel St-Hilaire, Sherbrooke Phoenix
The backup to Mathis Rousseau with Canada’s National Junior Team, St-Hilaire was limited to just 36 games with the Phoenix. That didn’t stop him from finishing third in the QMJHL with five shutouts and a 2.41 GAA. St-Hilaire stopped 91.5% of the pucks fired his way, the League’s fourth-best efficiency, to go along with a record of 18-12-1-3.
