Moravec goes for Gold

Mooseheads defenceman David Moravec will be going for the Gold Medal with Czechia in Halifax at 7:30pm at the IIHF World Junior Championship.
The Czechs defeated Sweden 2-1 in overtime on Wednesday to advance to the final which will be played against Canada following a thrilling 6-2 victory over the United States in the second semi-final. Moravec will become the 10th Mooseheads player to earn a medal at the World Juniors and was overjoyed after the win.
“I was crying in the locker room. It’s just a crazy, unbelievable feeling,” he said.
Czechia enters the night as the only team to beat Canada so far in the tournament after stunning the hosts 5-2 in the Boxing Day opener for both teams. Moravec scored a goal in that win and finished the round robin with two points and was a +5. While his country is guaranteed a medal at the World Juniors for the first time in 18 years, Moravec said they are simply trying to stay focused and prepared for the epic final game.
“It was an emotional moment for us to get here but we must be ready for the final.”

The atmosphere at Scotiabank Centre has been incredible throughout the entire tournament with a record crowd of more than 10,600 jammed in the building for Canada’s semi-final victory. The noise and excitement will no doubt reach its peak on Thursday night with Mooseheads defenceman David Moravec smack dab in the middle of it.
