Furlong to undergo season-ending shoulder surgery
2024-03-27
The Halifax Mooseheads announced on Wednesday that Captain Jake Furlong will require season-ending shoulder surgery and will miss the entire QMJHL playoffs.
“This is a major loss for our team. He is a leader for us both on and off the ice. This is a disappointing way for Jake to end his season, but his health is first and foremost for the future of his hockey career and we wish him all the best,” said Mooseheads General Manager Cam Russell
Furlong suffered the shoulder injury in a game in Moncton on March 16th and left the contest in the first period. The Upper Tantallon, NS native will undergo surgery in San Jose in the coming weeks.
The defenceman was a fifth round pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and has played his entire QMJHL career with the Mooseheads after joining the team as a second round selection in 2020.
Furlong has played 227 career games for Halifax and ranks third in team history in career points by a defenceman with 132. His career +/- of +75 is tied for fourth by a blueliner in the franchise record books.
The Mooseheads open Round One of the QMJHL Playoffs on Friday night at Scotiabank Centre when they host the Acadie-Bathurst Titan at 7pm. Game Two is set for Saturday at 7pm in Halifax. Tickets are on sale now at Ticketmaster.ca
