5 Straight Wins for the Mooseheads
2024-02-28
The final battle of Nova Scotia of the regular season was a tight one but Mathis Rousseau and the Mooseheads were able to hang on the secure a 2-1 victory for their fifth consecutive win.
The Cape Breton Eagles pushed hard until the buzzer and made things interesting by scoring a goal with the goalie on the bench and the extra attacker on the ice with exactly 36 seconds remaining on the clock. The visitors continued to pressure in an attempt to force overtime but Rousseau made a couple more fantastic game-saving stops which included one from his stomach as he had the puck between his skates against the post. He finished with 29 saves in the game and was named the first star.
After a scoreless first period, Halifax was first to strike when Jake Todd buried his shot from the right wing circle with 3:02 to go in the second frame. Jan Sprynar and Dylan MacKinnon were credited with the assists. The goal came shortly after Markus Vidicek thought he had given the home team the lead with a shot from the same spot as Todd, but the Vidicek goal was called back after a review determined that the play was offside.
Logan Crosby doubled the lead for the Herd when he made it 2-0 midway through the final period by knocking one in from the top of the crease after a feed by the red-hot Brady Schultz. The Crosby goal was his sixth of the season and stood as the game-winner. Schultz is the reigning QMJHL Player of the Week and picked up his 12th point in the last five games. Lou-Felix Denis also assisted on the goal.
