Familiar faces return to Charlottetown for a Saturday night matchup
Coming off of a 4-3 against the Drummondville Voltigeurs on Thursday, the Islanders quickly shifted their attention to Saturday’s matchup with the red-hot Gatineau Olympiques.
Gatineau currently sits 10th in the QMJHL, with their team scoring the 11th most goal and allowing the second fewest against this season.
The 11th ranked Gatineau offence has scored 93 goals as a team this season but it has been their goaltending that has kept the Olympiques competitive this season.
Goaltender Tristan Berube has been spectacular this season for Gatineau, leading the QMJHL in GAA, 2.12, while also ranking is second in save percentage, 0.924.
With the strong play of Berube and the dependable goaltending from backup Mathieu Bellemare, the Olympiques have allowed the second fewest goals in the league this season, with only 79 getting past their netminders.
Though their 5 on 5 offence may not be breaking any records, the Gatineau power play has been deadly this season, ranking 4th best in the league, capitalizing on 25 % of their opportunities.
A couple of familiar faces are leading the Olympiques’ offence this season with former Islanders Mitchell Balmas and Shawn Boudrais are leading their team with 30 and 21 points respectively. Former Islander defenseman Will Thompson is an assistant captain with the Olympiques this season.
