Chlapik off to U-18 Worlds, Johnston called up to Bridgeport
The Charlottetown Islanders season may now be finished, but the hockey season continues for two of the players.
Forwards Filip Chlapik and Ross Johnston will both continue to play, joining the Czech Republic National Team and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, respectively.
The Under-18 World Championship is currently underway in Zug and Lucerne, Switzerland, where Chlapik will join the Czech Republic team. The team is currently 0-1 and sits fourth in Group B after a loss to Finland yesterday and plays again today against Latvia.
The Islanders forward will likely join the lineup for Sunday’s game between Czech Republic and Canada.
In 73 regular season and playoff games with the Islanders, Chlapik posted 34 goals and 50 assists for 84 points.
Meanwhile, power forward Ross Johnston is off to Bridgeport, CT, to play for the Sound Tigers, the AHL affiliate of the New York Islanders.
Johnston signed an entry-level contract with New York last month.
The Sound Tigers have three games left in their regular season. They close the season with their last home game which takes place on Sunday afternoon. However, the team has already been eliminated from Calder Cup playoff contention.
The 6’05, 225-pound P.E.I. native had 18 goals and 14 assists for 32 points in 44 games with Charlottetown this season.
