Islanders set for a Thursday night matchup with Drummondville
Your Charlottetown Islanders are ready for a weekend at home following a successful road-trip in Quebec which saw them win two of three games, jumping into 8th overall in the QMJHL.
Matt Welsh has kept up his tremendous play to start the season, now tied for the league lead in wins with 15, and is 2nd in minutes played, 5th in GAA and 6th in both shots against and saves. Matt has also been named the Charlottetown Islanders Scholastic Player of the Month for the 2nd consecutive month.
Drummondville sits 4th in the QMJHL standings this season, tied for the league lead in team points with 42, but trailing the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada in the West Division.
The Voltigeurs offence has been productive this season, scoring a league leading 118 goals, with forward Robert Lynch and defencemen Nicolas Beaudin leading the way for their team offensively. Lynch leads his team in goals with 15, and Beaudin leads in assists with 23, with both players tied for the team lead in point with 30.
On the other end of the ice, the Drummondville defence has ranked near the middle of the pack all season long, with goaltenders Olivier Rodrigue and Daniel Moody allowing a total of 93 goals this season.
Despite the surge in goals scoring, the Voltigeurs have struggled on the Power Play this season, ranking 15th in the QMJHL in that department, operating at 17.6 percent this season. Their penalty killing hasn’t fared much better. Drummondville ranks 2nd worst in the league, with the penalty killing unit operation at a sub-par 76.4 percent clip.
Thursday night is Student Night where all students get $3 tickets to the game with a Student ID. The Islanders will be giving away a tuition credit of up to $600 in cash. Don’t forget Thursday is $3 Beer and Liquor Night for all 19+ in attendance as well.
