Screaming Eagles double Sea Dogs
SYDNEY – Duncan MacIntyre scored twice and François Brassard made 26 saves as the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-2 at Centre 200 on Saturday.
Colby Tower and Kyle Farrell also scored goals for the Screaming Eagles, who improve to 5-3-1-0 on the season.
Samuel Dove-McFalls and Spencer Smallman replied with goals for the Sea Dogs, who fall to 5-2-0-2 on the year.
Cape Breton got on the board on the power play as Sydney native Duncan MacIntyre scored his first goal as a Screaming Eagle at 3:33 of the first period, Evgeny Svechnikov and Loïk Léveillé were given the assists.
The Screaming Eagles took a 2-0 lead as Colby Tower netted his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League goal at 7:56 of the second period beating Blade Mann-Dixon, Jonathan Deschamps and Mason Gray picked up the helpers on the goal.
MacIntyre extended the Cape Breton lead as he found the back of the net for his second goal of the game, second of the season, on the power play at 12:53 of the middle frame, Léveillé and Clark Bishop recorded the assists.
Saint John pulled to within two as Samuel Dove-McFalls buried his second goal of the season at 15:21 of the second period, Mitchell Dempsey and Spencer Smallman found the score sheet with the helpers.
The Sea Dogs cut the Screaming Eagles lead to one as Smallman fired home his first goal of the season beating Screaming Eagles goaltender Brassard, shorthanded, at 17:33 of the middle period, Dove-McFalls had the lone assist on the goal.
Cape Breton added an insurance goal 41 seconds into the third period as Kyle Farrell scored his team-leading 11th goal of the season, Svechnikov and Julien Pelletier were given credit with the helpers.
Brassard’s record improves to 2-2-1-0.
Mann-Dixon turned aside 23 of 27 shots in the loss for Saint John, his record falls 0-1-0-0.
The Screaming Eagles are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Sherbrooke, Que., to face the Phoenix. Game time is 8 p.m. AST at Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet. First Career QMJHL Start: Saint John Sea Dogs goaltender Blade Mann-Dixon made his first career Quebec Major Junior Hockey League start on Saturday. He made 23 saves in his ‘Q’ debut.
