Screaming Eagles drop 5-4 decision to Sea Dogs
SYDNEY – Daniel Del Paggio’s goal at 12:26 of the third period proved to be the game winner as the Saint John Sea Dogs edged the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles 5-4 at Centre 200 on Friday.
Nathan Noel had a pair of goals while Mathieu Joseph and Adam Marsh also scored goals for the Sea Dogs, who improve to 5-1-0-2 on the season.
Charles-Eric Légaré scored twice while Maxim Lazarev and Clark Bishop also buried goals for the Screaming Eagles, who fall to 4-3-1-0.
Cape Breton opened the scoring on the power play as Maxim Lazarev scored his fifth goal of the season at 4:08 of the first period, Evgeny Svechnikov and Loïk Léveillé were given the assists.
The Screaming Eagles took a 2-0 lead as Charles-Eric Légaré netted his second goal of the season, on the power play, at 5:54 of the opening frame, Kyle Farrell and Julien Pelletier picked up the helpers on the goal.
Saint John cut the Cape Breton lead to one as Nathan Noel buried his fifth goal of the season at 17:12 of the first period, Jakub Zboril and Sébastien Auger recorded the assists.
Captain Clark Bishop regained the two goal lead for the Screaming Eagles as he fired home his fourth goal of the season beating Sea Dogs goaltender Auger at 3:14 of the second period, Pelletier had the lone helper.
Cape Breton took a 4-1 lead as Légaré netted his second goal of the game, third of the season, shorthanded, at 4:24 of the middle frame, Léveillé and Jonathan Deschamps found the score sheet with the assists on the goal.
The Sea Dogs pulled to within two as Mathieu Joseph scored his third goal of the season, on the power play, at 6:30 of the second period, Thomas Chabot and Olivier LeBlanc were given credit with the helpers.
Saint John cut the Screaming Eagles lead to one at 10:07 of the middle period as Noel notched his second goal of the game, sixth of the season, beating Screaming Eagles goaltender François Brassard, Chabot and Luke Green were given the assists.
The visiting Sea Dogs tied the game at 5:02 of the third period as rookie Adam Marsh found the back of the net for his fifth goal of the season, Juraj Siska and Samuel Dove-McFalls picked up the helpers on the goal.
The Sea Dogs took a 5-4 lead and never looked back as Daniel Del Paggio scored his second goal of the season at 12:26 of the final stanza, Siska and Green had the assists.
Auger made 27 saves in the win for Saint John, his record improves to 5-1-0-2. Brassard turned aside 25 of 30 shots in the loss for Cape Breton, his record falls to 1-2-1-0.
