D’Aoust leads Cats to comeback win over Foreurs
With just over one week to go until the Cataractes are set to host the first ever Winter Classic in the QMJHL, they were at home for a game against the Val-d’Or Foreurs. Despite going down 4-2 early in the third period, they were able to comeback and win 6-4 on the heals of two goals from Alexis D’Aoust.
Samuel Girard opened the scoring at 10:02, just past the midway point and that gave the home side a 1-0 lead on the powerplay. Newly named captain of Team Cherry for the Top Prospects game, Anthony Beauvillier, and Dennis Yan notched helpers.
Just seconds later, Nicolas Aube-Kubel tied the game with his 18th of the year. Assists were given to Anthony Beauregard and Anthony Richard. Later in the period, the Foreurs took a 2-1 lead on an unassisted goal from Nathan Tremblay.
In the second, Giovanni Fiore and Beauregard traded goals at 11:20 and 12:33 respectively to give us a 3-2 Val-d’Or lead heading into the third period.
The final 20 minutes began with Aube-Kubel netting his second of the night and 19th of the year, assisted by Richard, to make it 4-2 Foreurs.
Alexis D’Aoust started the Cataractes comeback at 5:07 with his 19th, assisted by James Phelan. Christophe Lalonde and Phelan followed that up with goals of their own. Lalonde’s powerplay marker came at 9:34, while Phelan’s goal was scored at 10:12. Three goals in just over five minutes of player made it 5-4 Shawinigan.
D’Aoust sealed the deal with an empty-netter at 19:04 for his 20th of the season. It was unassisted and made the final score 6-4 for the Cataractes.
The next home game for your Cataractes is next Friday, January 23rd as we host the first ever QMJHL Winter Classic at Grandes Estrades Coors Banquet in Saint-Tite.
