Jr. Canadiens win 2008 OHL Cup
The final of the 2008 OHL Showcase Tournament for the OHL Cup featuredra rematch of the Greater Toronto Hockey League Championship Series asrthe Toronto Marlboros took on the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. The Marlborosrwere the first ones to light the lamp as Michael Hawkrigg found therback of the net off of a shot from just above the face-off dot 5:03rinto the contest.

rThe Jr. Candiens offense responded with two goals of their own beforerthe end of the first frame. The first from Tyler Toffoli and a powerrplay marker from Cody McNaughton on a set up from Toffoli. The firstrperiod came to a close with the Jr. Canadiens leading 2-1.

rLess than a minute into the second period John McFarland picked the toprcorner from the top of the slot to beat Jon-Paul Anderson and extendrthe Jr. Canadiens’ lead to 3-1. The Marlies reduced the lead to arsingle goal when Freddie Hamilton capped off a solid individual effortrby beating Canadiens’ goalie Spencer Sommerville with a backhand shotrthat found the top corner of the net. The score remained 3-2 in favourrof the Jr. Canadiens entering the third period.

rChasen Balisy restored the Jr. Canadiens two goal lead 3:19 into therperiod off of a feed from Devante Smith-Pelly. Tournament MVP,rMcFarland iced the game for the Jr. Canadiens with his second goal ofrthe game with just over a minute remaining in the contest.

rToffoli was named player of the game for the Jr. Canadiens with a goalrand three assists. Marlboros’ goaltender, Anderson turned in a solidrperformance to earn his team’s player of the game. McFarland was namedrthe tournament MVP after scoring eight goals and adding seven assistsrfor 15 points in seven games.
