There’s no hiding that the Spokane Chiefs’ Chase Harrington was disappointed to have not been part of Canada’s U18 programs.
After representing his country at the 2023 World U17 Hockey Challenge, Harrington didn’t recieve an invite to attend the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. But fast forward a few years, and he is right in the middle of consideration for a spot on Canada’s World Juniors roster after being invited to the World Juniors Summer Showcase.
“It gives me a lot of confidence [to be invited] and see the work I’ve put in and how far I have come,” Harrington said. “Not getting invited to Hlinka camp that stung for sure and put a chip on my shoulder. It’s an honour to be here now.”
The 18-year-old has impressed the past two seasons with the Chiefs where he has surpassed the 50-point plateau in back-to-back years and helped the franchise reach the WHL Championship Series in 2025. His 28 goals last season were a new career high where he completed the 2025-26 campaign by being the 36th overall pick in the NHL Draft by the Calgary Flames.
“The way I play matches the Canadian style quite a bit,” he said. “I play hard, I play physical. But I have a lot of skill. I play fast. I’m here to lay some hits but make some plays as well.”
