Currie named CHL Player of the Week
Goaltender David Currie of the Peterborough Petes is the Canadian Hockey League Player of the Week for the week ending on December 8, 2002. Each week during the regular season a CHL Player of the Week is selected based on the three member leagues’ player of the week.
In three games last week Currie recorded a pair of shutouts in helping the Petes win two of their three games. The native of Peterborough posted a 0.40 goals against average and a .985 save percentage. Currie turned aside 24 shots in a 5-0 win over the Kingston Frontenacs on December 5 and he made 27 saves in a 6-0 win on December 8 against the Toronto St. Michael’s Majors. On December 7 Currie allowed one goal in relief of starter Jeff MacDougald in a 4-3 loss to the Erie Otters.
Defenseman Bruno Gervais of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan is the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Defensive Player of the Week. In two games last week Gevais was a plus seven and scored twice. Halifax Mooseheads’ centre Francois-Pierre Guenette is the QMJHL Offensive Player of the Week. Guenette scored four goals and added four assists in three games last week.
Ben Kilgour of the Tri-City Americans is the Western Hockey League’s Player of the Week. In three games last week the native of Leduc, Alberta recorded eight points on two goals and six assists.
