U SPORTS All-Stars prevail at Canadian World Junior Selection Camp

St. Catharines, ON – The U SPORTS All-Stars defeated Canadian National Junior Team hopefuls on back-to-back days in St. Catharines, Ont. as Canada held it’s National Junior Team Selection Camp.
Hockey Canada announced that Dennis Cholowski (Prince George Cougars), Cody Glass (Portland Winterhawks), Kole Lind (Kelowna Rockets), Samuel Harvey (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies), Logan Stanley (Kitchener Rangers) and Jonathan Ang (Peterborough Petes) were assigned to their respective CHL teams following Thursday’s second matchup.
With the camp roster now at 27, Canada’s National Junior Team squares off against Denmark in a World Junior Hockey Championship tune-up on Friday at 2:00pm ET.
Here’s a closer look at action from St. Catharines as CHL grads representing the U SPORTS All-Stars claimed a pair of victories.
Wednesday December 13th
U SPORTS ALL-STARS 3 – CANADA 0
Carter Hart (Everett Silvertips) made 18 saves, contributing to a shutout effort for the U SPORTS All-Stars as they blanked Canadian World Junior hopefuls by a score of 3-0 in St. Catharines. Luke Philp (Alberta/Red Deer Rebels) opened the scoring 2:44 into action.
The goaltenders took care of things from there as Michael DiPietro (Windsor Spitfires) and Samuel Harvey (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies) combined to make 21 saves the rest of the way before Michael Clarke (StFX/Peterborough Petes) and Logan McVeigh (Saskatchewan/Kamloops Blazers) both hit the open net late in the third period.
Team Canada outshot U SPORTS 32-24 in the loss.
Thursday December 14th
U SPORTS ALL-STARS 4 – CANADA 3
Jason Fram (Alberta/Spokane Chiefs) scored the game winner on the power play with just seven seconds left in regulation as the U SPORTS All-Stars took a 4-3 victory over Canadian National Junior Team hopefuls on Thursday.
The back-and-forth affair was a fast-paced, low-shooting contest as Cole Sanford (Alberta/Regina Pats) starred with two goals and an assist for U SPORTS. Niagara IceDogs graduate Stephen Harper (Acadia/Niagara IceDogs) enjoyed a successful homecoming with a goal and an assist for U SPORTS while Samuel Harvey (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies) and Michael DiPietro (Windsor Spitfires) shared the win in goal.
Alex Formenton (London Knights), Kale Clague (Brandon Wheat Kings) and Robert Thomas (London Knights) scored goals for Canada while Conor Timmins (Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds) recorded two assists.
Team Canada outshot U SPORTS by a total of 20-16, going 2-for-3 on the power play.
