Talk Today takes centre ice across the CHL this February
WHL, OHL and QMJHL Clubs are working with their local CMHAs to support positive mental health
February marks Talk Today Month across the Western Hockey League (WHL), Ontario Hockey League (OHL), and Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) — bringing Clubs together to champion positive mental health in partnership with their local Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) branches. Throughout the month, clubs from across the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) will host a dedicated Talk Today game in support of CMHA, using their platforms to spark conversations and raise awareness about mental health in their communities.
Fans attending Talk Today games will experience a variety of in-arena activations designed to highlight the importance of mental wellness, including:
- A CMHA-run kiosk on the concourse where fans can learn more about mental health and the organization’s community-based services
- A ceremonial puck drop and photo opportunity with the local CMHA branch
- Videos featuring players talking about the importance of mental health
- Public service announcements about mental health and the local CMHA branch

Launched in 2014 as a collaboration between CMHA Ontario and the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), Talk Today later expanded to include the Western Hockey League (WHL) and the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). Over the past decade, the program has become one of Canada’s most comprehensive mental health initiatives in sport, focused on education, early intervention, and ongoing support.
Since its inception, Talk Today has delivered mental health and suicide awareness training to more than 5,800 individuals, including players, coaches, billets, parents, and team staff across the CHL. Each season, teams participate in the program, ensuring all rookies and any additional players, staff, and coaches are trained through Talk Today.
In November, during the 2025 CHL USA Prospects Challenge, the CHL raised more than $10,000 in support of Talk Today and local CMHA branches. This adds to more than $140,000 generated through CHL national events over the past three seasons, with proceeds supporting the program and CMHA branches in communities across the league. These efforts are part of a three-year commitment announced in March 2024, dedicating CHL fundraising activities to the CMHA’s Talk Today program.
