About the Canadian Hockey League
The Canadian Hockey League is the world’s largest development hockey league with 52 Canadian and eight American teams participating in the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. The CHL supplies more players to the National Hockey League and U SPORTS than any other league. The CHL and its 60 member clubs are committed to the player experience which includes the leading scholarship program in sport, programs to support mental health, other health and welfare programs and the best coaching and on-ice training in hockey. Last season, more than nine million fans attended CHL games in the regular season, playoffs and at the Memorial Cup.
Job Description
The CHL’s Manager of League Programs will play an integral role in the day to day management of the CHL’s equipment supplier program, league licensing relationships and hockey operations requirements of the national office. The position will work closely with the Director of Business Operations and other staff members to facilitate league programs in conjunction with the regional leagues and CHL member clubs.
Main Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Licensing
- Managing the relationships and delivery of programs for league licensing partners, including but not limited to: CCM, EA Sports, Upper Deck, Official Game Puck, Graduor & CHL Auctions
Equipment Supplier Program
- Manage the day to day relationships with league equipment suppliers
- Ensure leagues, clubs and suppliers have all pertinent information to ensure supplier program works efficiently and to identify new opportunities for all parties
- Conduct regular surveys with member clubs to collect information to allow for the continued improvement and enhancement of the supplier program
- Develop league marketing programs for equipment suppliers in conjunction with the regional league staffs
Hockey Operations
- Working with the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport to continue to deliver and improve upon the leagues anti-doping policies
- Responsible for coordinating player eligibility matters with the regional leagues
- Responsible for conducting the annual Import Player Draft
- Working with Hockey Canada on marketing partnerships around the Under 17 Championship and hosting opportunities for CHL teams at other Hockey Canada national events
- Manage the Russian National Junior Team during the CIBC Canada Russia Series
Qualifications:
- Post secondary degree or diploma in Business Administration, Sports Administration, Marketing or related program
- Being bilingual (English and French) is a strong asset
- Have a minimum of two years of experience in a career environment
- Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office are essential
- A skill set that includes strong leadership, organizational, problem solving, writing and communication skills
- Self-starter able to work independently as well as in a team environment
- Strong knowledge and an understanding of the game of hockey
