CHL Today: Cowan extends regular season point streak to 50 games
Headlines
- Easton Cowan (TOR) extended his regular season point streak to 50 games after he scored twice in London’s win over Sarnia. Cowan was last held off the scoresheet Nov. 24 and ended the 2023-24 season with points in 36 games. Last season’s OHL MVP, Cowan has 18 points (11 goals) in 14 games this year.
- The 5,000th game in Regina Pats history was a memorable one Friday as Tye Spencer scored the overtime winner in a 4-3 victory against Brandon. Of their 5,000 games, 4,006 have come as a member of the WHL. Full story

- The London Knights (2) saw its winning streak hit double digits courtesy of a 5-3 win over Sarnia. London’s 14 wins are tied for the OHL lead.
- Koehn Ziemmer (LA) had the game-winner as the Prince George Cougars (4) snuck past Kelowna 4-3. The Cougars’ 29 points are the second most in the WHL.
- The Windsor Spitfires (6) saw its mini two-game winning streak end after a 9-3 loss to Sudbury. The Spits’ 14 wins match the Knights and Rangers for the OHL’s best.
- The Rimouski Oceanic (7) extended its winning streak to four games after a 6-4 road victory over Quebec. The Memorial Cup hosts are tied for the third most wins in the Q with 15.
- The Tri-City Americans (8) saw its 12-game winning streak come to an end after a 5-3 loss to Prince Albert. However, the Americans 13 wins are tied for the second most in the WHL.
- A 4-1 win over Peterborough gave the Kitchener Rangers (9) its OHL tying best 14th win of the campaign.
NHL Prospect Watch
- Carey Terrance (ANA) had a career high four goals to lead Erie to a 7-5 win over Saginaw. Terrance has 10 goals in 19 games this year.
- Sam Dickinson (SJ) and Denver Barkey (PHI) each had four assists during London’s victory over Sarnia. Dickinson’s 29 points leads all OHL d-men while Barkey’s tied fifth in team scoring with 15 points.
- Quentin Musty (SJ) had a season high six points (2G, 4A) to steer Sudbury to a 9-3 win versus Windsor. Musty, who tallied 102 points a year ago, has 11 points (four goals) in seven games.
- Carson Rehkopf (SEA) tallied four points (2G, 2A) as Brampton took down Barrie 5-2. Rehkopf, who had 52 goals a year ago, has amassed 33 points (11 goals) in 18 contests in his first season with the Steelheads.
- Mathieu Cataford (VGK) had three points (1G, 2A) in Rimouski’s victory versus Quebec. Cataford – who was the QMJHL’s MVP last season – leads the league with 34 points.
- Tomas Mrsic (STL) recorded his first WHL hat-trick to lead Prince Albert to a 5-3 win over Tri-City. In his first season with the Raiders, Mrsic has 11 goals in 15 games.
Nightly notes
- Lucas Beckman (2025) recorded his second shutout of the season with a 17-save performance as Baie-Comeau blanked Sherbrooke 2-0. Beckman is 12-4-0 with a 2.25 GAA and .921 save percentage
- Cape Breton captain Jacob Newcombe notched his second career QMJHL hat-trick to lead the Eagles to a 6-2 win over Victoriaville. Newcombe’s 18 points are the second most among Eagles skaters this year.
- Kamloops’ Jordan Keller had a three goals and an assist as Kamloops took down Vancouver 6-2. Keller has 10 goals and 25 points in 21 appearances.
- Gavin McKenna (2026) scored twice in Medicine Hat’s 5-1 win against Victoria and in the process passed the 50-goal plateau in his WHL career. McKenna’s 41 points leads the WHL this season.
CHL USA Prospects Challenge
- Porter Martone (2025) had four assists as Brampton beat Barrie 5-2. Martone, who is a strong contender to be chosen first overall in the 2025 NHL Draft, is second in OHL scoring with 36 points.
- Matthew Schaefer (2025) tallied three helpers in Erie’s 7-5 victory over Saginaw. Schaefer has 14 points in 10 games this year.
