4 CHL Players Named to U.S. Under-18 Selects
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that four CHL players will compete with the U.S. Under-18 Select Team at the 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament August 8-13 in Breclav, Czech Republic, and Bratislava, Slovakia.
OHL forwards Sasha Chmelevski (Ottawa 67’s) and Vanya Lodnia (Erie Otters) will join WHL talent in Austin Pratt (Red Deer Rebels) and Mark Kastelic (Calgary Hitmen) in representing the United States in the annual tournament. They’re among 21 players chosen following the USA Hockey Boys Select 17 Player Development Camp that was held this past weekend at the Northtown Center in Williamsville, New York.
Additionally, recently committed Kitchener Rangers prospect Dylan Seitz was also named to the roster.
The Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup is an annual event held each August for national under-18 teams from around the world. Named for one of the first Czech hockey stars, the tournament began in 1991 as a three-team showcase. Between 1997 and 2002, the format shifted to the current eight-team tournament. It was then named after Hlinka in 2007, three years after his passing.
The 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup will include teams from Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Russia, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
