Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Drew Owsley of the Tri-City Americans is the CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending April 11. Owsley won three games including a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 1.62 and save percentage of .952.
Owsley backstopped the Americans to a 4-1 series win over the Kelowna Rockets in the Kal Tire WHL Western Conference Semi-Finals. He posted back-to-back first star performances beginning with a 31 save effort on Tuesday night in a 2-0 Game 3 victory. He then made 33 saves in a 3-2 win in Game 4 on Wednesday. He finished the series with a big 36 save performance in a 4-3 overtime win in Game 5. The Americans will now face the Vancouver Giants in the Conference Finals.
Owlsey, a 19-year-old from Lethbridge, ON, is playing in his second WHL season with the Americans. He finished the regular season with the fifth best goals-against-average in the league with a mark of 2.51.
Also considered for the award was Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats who won two games in three starts with a goals-against-average of 2.24 and save percentage of .909 to help the Wildcats defeat the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 4-1 in the QMJHL quarter finals. Mavric Parks won two games for the Barrie Colts with a goals-against-average of 1.50 and save percentage of .958 to backstop the Colts to a 4-0 series win over the Brampton Battalion.
