Alexeev turns in top performances
The Erie Otters’ Nikita Alexeev won two events in the 2000 Home Hardware Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game Skills Testing. The 40 players that are participating in tomorrow night’s game were tested in five categories: Puck Control, 60- foot dash, 150- foot dash, one full lap and hardest shot. The testing was held at Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens.
Alexeev, a native of Murmansk, Russia, turned in the fastest times in both the 150-foot dash and in the one full lap of the rink. In the 150-foot dash Alexeev went the distance in 14.493 seconds to edge out Antoine Vermette of the Victoriaville Tigres who turned in a time of 5.667.
Alexeev needed just 14.493 seconds to do one lap of the rink at Maple Leaf Gardens. David Morisset of the Seattle Thunderbirds turned in a time of 14.605 to finish in second place.
The Seattle Thunderbirds’ Craig Olynick had the fastest shot of the forty players. Olynick’s shot was timed at 97.3 miles per hour, just .2 miles per hour faster than Rostislav Klesla of the Brampton Battalion.
The Battalion’s Tyler Hanchuk was third with a time of 96.2.
Matthew Lombardi of the Victoriaville Tigres was the best in the 60-foot dash at 2.680 seconds. Right behind Lombardi were Lou Dickenson of the Mississauga IceDogs at 2.700 seconds and the Calgary Hitmen’s Matt Pettinger who was timed in 2.735 seconds.
The Puck Control part of the testing was won by Scott Hartnell of the Prince Albert Raiders who needed just 16.710 seconds to complete the course. Dickenson turned in another second best performance with a clocking of 16.715.

The 2000 Home Hardware Canadian Hockey League Top Prospects Game will be played at the Air Canada Centre at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2. The game will be telecast live on CTV Sportsnet.
