IceDogs’ Jason Robertson wins Emera Top Scorer Award
Niagara IceDogs left-wing Jason Robertson led the CHL with 117 points in 62 games, counting 48 goals and 69 assists to help guide his club to a second-place regular-season finish in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.
Following a midseason trade from the Kingston Frontenacs, the Dallas Stars prospect pushed the pace with the IceDogs as his production climbed by half-a-point per game as he finished with 79 points in 38 appearances. The native of Northville, Mich., also put together an impressive 19-game point streak that saw him record 11 goals and 28 assists for 39 points. He then added another 10 points in 10 games of playoff action. Across four OHL seasons, he has registered 149 goals and 168 assists for 317 points in 252 career games.
This season, Robertson was a three-time recipient of OHL ‘On the Run’ Player of the Week honours, while he was also twice recognized as the CHL Player of the Week. Robertson was selected 62nd overall by the Frontenacs in the 2015 OHL Priority Selection.
Robertson is the first OHL skater to claim the Emera Top Scorer Award since Dylan Strome (Erie Otters) did so in 2015. Finalists for the award this year also included San Jose Sharks prospect Joachim Blichfeld of the Portland Winterhawks, who scored 114 points, as well as Peter Abbandonato of the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, who finished with 111 points.
