Otters’ Connor McDavid named CHL Player of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that top 2015 NHL Draft prospect Connor McDavid of the Erie Otters is the CHL Player of the Week for the playoff week ending April 12 recording 12 points including seven goals and five assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-8 in three games.
McDavid helped the Otters gain a 3-0 series lead against the London Knights in the OHL’s Western Conference Semi-Finals with a trio of multi-point games. He earned first star honours in the first two contests beginning with a four-point performance scoring two goals and two assists in a 5-2 win in Game 1 on Thursday, then set a franchise playoff record with five goals in Game 2 on Friday leading the Otters to a 7-3 victory. He finished the week by collecting three assists as part of Sunday’s 4-1 victory in Game 3 of the series. The Otters visit the Knights for Game 4 tonight in a matchup broadcast live on Sportsnet 360 beginning at 7:00 pm Eastern.
McDavid, an 18-year-old from Newmarket, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Otters. Listed first overall by NHL Central Scouting in their final rankings for the 2015 NHL Draft, McDavid leads the OHL playoff scoring race with 21 points in eight games after finishing the regular season with 120 points in 47 games.
Also considered for the award this week was Winnipeg Jets prospect Nikolaj Ehlers of the Halifax Mooseheads with five goals and four assists for nine points in three games helping the Mooseheads grad a 2-0 lead over the Moncton Wildcats in the second round of the QMJHL playoffs. In the WHL, Tyson Baillie of the Kelowna Rockets scored three goals and one assist for four points in two wins against the Victoria Royals.
