Barrie’s Aitcheson pens ELC with Islanders
Barrie Colts defenceman Kashawn Aitcheson has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the New York Islanders.
Aitcheson, who was named captain ahead of the season, has had a standout 2025-26 campaign as he leads all OHL d-men with 70 points and ranks tied fifth among CHL players while his 28 goals are tied for the CHL lead. Furthermore, the 19-year-old became Barrie’s all-time goals scored (63) and all-time points leader (171) by a defenceman in franchise history earlier this season passing former Colts star Brandt Clarke (LA) in both categories.
The 50th overall pick by the Colts in the 2022 OHL Draft, Aitcheson has made 205 appearances for the club, the eighth most by a blueliner.
Furthermore, on the international stage the Toronto, ON., native has a 2024 U18 World Championships gold medal and helped Canada to bronze at the 2026 World Juniors.
Aitcheson was the 17th overall pick by the Islanders in the 2025 NHL Draft.
