CHL Today: Moncton, Windsor & Everett take charge of their league with victories on Saturday

- 2025 NHL Draft prospect and Team CHL forward Caleb Desnoyers scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, as the No.1-ranked Moncton Wildcats beat the Cataractes 5-2 to move into first place in the QMJHL’s overall standings.
- Vegas Golden Knights prospect Mathieu Cataford registered three points (1G-2A) in the No.2-ranked Rimouski Océanic’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Val-d’Or Foreurs. Cataford now leads all QMJHL scorers with 25 points this season.
- Minnesota Wild prospect Riley Heidt potted two goals as the No.4-ranked Prince George Cougars fell to the Victoria Royals in a shootout 5-4. Already the franchise’s all-time scoring leader, Heidt picked up his 300th career WHL point on Saturday night – making him the first player in Cougars’ franchise history to achieve the feat.
- 20-year-old forward Sam Oliver (2G), captain Luke Woodworth (1G-1A), and Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Ethan Gauthier (1G-1A) each collected two points as the No.5-ranked Drummondville Voltigeurs doubled up the Saint John Sea Dogs 4-2. Oliver now ranks tied for first in the QMJHL with 13 goals.
- In a showdown between two Top-10 teams, the No.6-ranked Windsor Spitfires defeated the No.9-ranked Niagara IceDogs 2-1 thanks to a third-period goal from 2025 NHL Draft prospect Jack Nesbitt. With the victory, the Spitfires sit first in the OHL’s overall standings and are the only 10-win team in that league.
- 20-year-old Mathew Ward (2G-1A) and Calgary Flames prospect Andrew Basha (1G-2A) both enjoyed three-point outings as the No. 7-ranked Medicine Hat Tigers scored a 5-1 victory over the Regina Pats.
- In a rematch of the 2024 Memorial Cup final, the No.8-ranked London Knights bested the Saginaw Spirit 4-1 at the Dow Event Center on Saturday night. Both San Jose Sharks prospect Sam Dickinson and Edmonton Oilers prospect Sam O’Reilly had a goal and an assist in that contest.
- 20-year-old Tyler MacKenzie registered a game-high four points (2G-2A) as the No.10-ranked Everett Silvertips won their fifth straight by defeating the Wenatchee 5-4 on Saturday. The Silvertips are in first place in the WHL’s overall standings and are the only 11-win team in the CHL so far this season.

- Edmonton Oilers prospect Nathaniel Day (Flint Firebirds) stopped all 37 shots he faced to secure his first career OHL shutout in a 3-0 Firebirds’ victory over the Attack.
- Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan (London Knights) extended his regular-season point streak to 43 games by potting his fifth goal of the 2024-25 season.
- Dallas Stars prospect Brad Gardiner (Barrie Colts) registered his second consecutive three-point outing (2G-1A) in a 6-1 win for the Colts over the Storm. Gardiner is up to 13 points (8G-5A) in 12 games this season.
- St. Louis Blues prospect Juraj Pekarcik (Moncton Wildcats) collected three helpers in Moncton’s 5-2 victory over Shawinigan. Pekarcik is currently on a four-game point streak with seven points (2G-5A) over that stretch.
- Anaheim Ducks prospect Alexandre Blais (Rimouski Océanic) matched a season-high with three points (1G-2A) during Rimouski’s 5-4 shootout loss to the Foreurs.
- Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Brayden Yager (Moose Jaw Warriors) had a goal and two assists in a 6-4 Warriors’ loss to the Blazers. It was Yager’s sixth multi-point game of the 2024-25 season.
- Detroit Red Wings prospect Emmitt Finnie (Kamloops Blazers) recorded his third consecutive multi-point outing by tallying three points (1G-2A) in the Blazers’ victory on Saturday. Finnie has nine points (3G-6A) over his last three contests.
- Nashville Predators prospect Miguel Marques (Lethbridge Hurricanes) potted a pair of goals and added an assist in Lethbridge’s 5-3 victory. Marques is currently on a five-game point streak with 10 points (3G-7A) over that stretch.
- St. Louis Blues prospect Adam Jecho (3A) and Florida Panthers prospect Gracyn Sawchyn (2G-1A) each had three points for the Edmonton Oil Kings in the club’s 7-1 victory over the Winterhawks.
- Utah Hockey Club prospect Justin Kipkie (Victoria Royals) recorded a season-best three points in the Royals’ 5-4 shootout victory over the Cougars.
- Seattle Kraken prospect Berkly Catton (Spokane Chiefs) scored the Chiefs’ lone two goals in a 5-2 Spokane loss to the Tri-City Americans. Catton has five multi-point outings over his last six games.

- 2025 NHL Draft prospect and Team CHL forward Ben Kindel (Calgary Hitmen) is arguably the hottest player in the CHL right now. On Saturday, Kindel registered two goals and one assist in a 4-3 OT loss for the Hitmen against the Wheat Kings. Kindel has now registered two points or more in six straight games, collecting 15 points (8G-7A) over that stretch. He also has scored a goal in five of his last six games.
- 2025 NHL Draft prospect Nathan Behm (Kamloops Blazers) registered four points (1G-3A) in the Blazers’ 6-4 win over the Warriors. Behm currently leads the WHL with 22 points and 12 goals.
- 2025 NHL Draft prospect and Team CHL forward Lynden Lakovic (Moose Jaw Warriors) matched a season-high by tallying three points (1G-2A) in the Warriors’ 6-4 loss to the Blazers.
- Thanks to a 4-3 victory over the Otters in Erie, the Kitchener Rangers extended their point streak to 11 games (9-0-1-1) and they sit only one point behind the first-place Windsor Spitfires for first place in the OHL standings.
- Goaltender Joey Costanzo (Windsor Spitfires) was excellent on Saturday night, making 32 saves and giving up only one goal to the Niagara IceDogs. Costanzo is now a perfect 9-0-0-0 on the season, the longest undefeated run to start a season by a Spitfires goalie since Michael Leighton went 8-0-2 to start the 2000-01 campaign. Costanzo also currently leads the OHL in GAA (1.89), SV% (.936), and wins (9).
- 2025 NHL Draft prospect and Team CHL forward Michael Misa (Saginaw Spirit) tallied the Spirit’s lone goal in a 4-1 loss to the Knights. Misa is up to 16 goals in 12 games this season as he continues to lead all CHL skaters in goals during the 2024-25 campaign.
- 2026 NHL Draft prospect Gavin McKenna (Medicine Hat Tigers) scored his sixth goal of the season to extend his point streak to four games. McKenna is now up to 21 points (6G-15A) this season, which ranks second in the WHL and one point shy of the leader Behm.
