Warriors’ Zach Sawchenko named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Zach Sawchenko of the Moose Jaw Warriors is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts for the week ending October 5 carrying a perfect goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.
Sawchenko earned the first two shutouts of his career last week beginning with a 30-save performance as first star of a 3-0 victory over the visiting Red Deer Rebels on Thursday night. He followed that up with a 25-save effort on Saturday night again earning first star honours as part of a 5-0 victory over the visiting Tri-City Americans.
Sawchenko, a 16-year-old from Calgary, AB, is playing in his second WHL season with the Warriors. Eligible for the 2016 NHL Draft, Sawchenko currently has a 3-1-0-0 record with a 1.55 goals-against-average and a .950 save percentage. In 26 games played as a rookie last season, he posted a 9-13-0-1 record with a 3.63 goals-against-average and a .885 save percentage.
Also considered for the award this week was Ken Appleby of the Oshawa Generals who went 2-0-0-0 with a shutout victory posting a 1.50 goals-against-average and a .959 save percentage, while Philippe Cadorette of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar carried a 2-0-0-0 record with a 1.92 goals-against-average and a .944 save percentage.
