Royals’ Bobylev Named WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Victoria Royals forward Vladimir Bobylev has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending March 27th, 2016.
Bobylev recorded six points (0g-6a) to go along with a plus-5 rating in two games to propel the Victoria Royals to a 2-0 series lead over the Spokane Chiefs in their Round 1 match-up.
On Friday, March 25th against the Spokane Chiefs, Bobylev recorded three assists and a plus-3 rating to earn third star honours in the Royals 5-3 victory in Game 1. The following night, Bobylev continued to make plays on the ice as he tallied three assists to go along with a plus-2 rating in the Royals 4-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs in Game 2. Bobylev was named the game’s second star for his efforts.
The 18-year-old native of Lipestk, RUS finished the 2015-16 regular season with 67 points (28g-39a) and a plus-45 rating while appearing in all 72 games this season. The 6-2, 202 lb forward is in his second WHL campaign and has amassed 76 points (31g-45a) in 124 career WHL regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Mario Petit of the Everett Silvertips for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Petit, a 1997-born netminder from Ile-Des-Chenes, MB posted a record of 2-0-0-0 with a 0.50 goals against average and a .981 save percentage with one shutout. On Friday, March 25th, Petit turned aside all 29 shots he faced to earn his first career post-season shutout as the Silvertips won by a score of 3-0 in Game 1 against the Portland Winterhawks. Petit was named the game’s first star for his performance. The following night, Petit kept up his consistent play as he made 24 saves to guide the Silvertips to a 3-1 victory over the Winterhawks in Game 2. Currently in his first WHL campaign with Everett, Petit has posted a 3-3-4-0 record with a 2.80 goals against average in 15 career WHL regular season appearances.
