Mathew Ward signs WHL Standard Player Agreement with Swift Current Broncos

Swift Current, Sask.– The Swift Current Broncos Hockey Club is pleased to announce they have signed Mathew Ward to a Western Hockey League Standard Player Agreement.

The 5-foot-7, 130-pound centreman was selected 14th overall in the WHL Bantam Draft in early May.

“I like to set guys up, play as a team and make other players better” Ward said when asked to describe his game. Ward compared his style to Calgary Flames standout Johnny Gaudreau.

Ward, a product of Richmond, B.C., played the 2018-19 season with the Delta Hockey Academy Bantam Prep Green team where he put up 64 points (24G-40A) in 30 games.

“He was a player that we wanted going way back to January,” said Broncos Head Coach Dean Brockman. “He brings so many intangibles to the team.”

The Broncos now have commitments on paper from three of their top five picks from the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft. Ward and third-round selections Josh Davies and Reid Dyck have inked WHL Standard Player Agreements in the last month.

With Ward’s signing, 17 of the 22 first-round selections from the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft have now signed WHL Standard Player Agreements.
