Lethbridge Hurricanes clinch berth in 2024 WHL Playoffs
The ‘Cane Train is playoff-bound for a seventh straight season.
Lethbridge clinched a berth in the postseason with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Rebels in Red Deer on March 16.
Defence has been a hallmark of the team’s play in 2023-24, with Lethbridge allowing the fifth-fewest goals and sporting one of the league’s top penalty kills.
Workhorse veteran Harrison Meneghin ranks in the top five in wins (27), goals-against average (2.57), save percentage (.917) and shutouts (3) among qualified WHL goalies.
The Surrey, B.C. product is the ninth goaltender in Hurricanes history to hit 25 wins in a single season and is also ninth in all-time Hurricanes victories with 46.
On the blueline, formidable 6-foot-4 Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Noah Chadwick- who scored the playoff-clinching overtime marker- has surpassed 50 points for the first time in his major junior career with 12 goals and 42 assists.
2024 NHL Draft-eligible forwards Brayden Edwards and Miguel Marques lead the attack up front.
The pair are neck and neck for the team lead in points (Marques has 71) and goals (Edwards has 29).
Lethbridge also made some key moves throughout the season, adding Anaheim Ducks prospect Sean Tschigerl, Dylan Sydor and Hayden Pakkala to bolster the offence.
The Hurricanes quest for a second WHL Championship kicks off at the end of March.
