Blades captain Wong named Tempo WHL Player of the Week
Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League announced today Trevor Wong of the Saskatoon Blades has been named Tempo WHL Player of the Week for the week ending November 5, 2023.
Wong, who serves as captain of the Blades, recorded nine points (1G-8A) and a plus-8 rating in three games as the Blades went 3-0-0-0 this past week.
The 5-foot-9, 158-pound centre from Vancouver, B.C., started the week by registering a primary assist Thursday, November 2 as the Blades thumped their East Division rivals, the Prince Albert Raiders, by a 7-2 score.
The 20-year-old veteran followed up with three assists – all primary – Friday, November 3 as the Blades skated past the Prince George Cougars by a 5-3 margin. In the first period, Wong set up Misha Volotovskii for his first goal of the season. The Blades captain then provided the first helper on a second-period tally from Tyler Parr. Rounding out the night, Wong set up Egor Sidorov for an insurance marker in the third period. Wong was named First Star of the game.
Sunday, November 5, Wong put an exclamation point on an already stellar week, notching five points (1G-4A) in a 6-2 win over the Regina Pats. Wong provided assists on all three first-period goals scored by Sidorov, including two primary helpers. Wong also found the back of the net on a rush down the left side, scoring his fifth goal of the season 6:28 into the first period. That goal went on to stand as the game-winner. He then added a second-period assist on another strike from Rowan Calvert. Wong was named Second Star of the game.
Winners of three straight and having gone 7-3-0-0 over their previous 10 games, the Blades sit atop the WHL’s East Division with a record of 11-5-0-0.
Through 16 games, Wong has collected 27 points (5G-22A) and sits seventh in scoring in the WHL. His 22 assists are good for second in the League.
