2019 NHL Draft Profile – Matthew Robertson
Matthew Robertson was a top player for the Edmonton Oil Kings this season, finishing second among team blue-liners with seven goals and 33 points through 52 appearances. He then added another eight points through three rounds of playoff action. On the international stage, Robertson competed with Team Canada at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, putting up four points in five games en route to a gold medal win. Robertson is the 26th-ranked North American skater in NHL Central Scouting’s Final Draft Rankings.
Robertson describes himself as a two-way defenceman who likes to join the rush. A native of Sherwood Park, Alta., Robertson has spent two full seasons with the Oil Kings, recording 14 goals and 58 points in 126 career contests. Robertson models his game after Tampa Bay Lightning defender Victor Hedman, notes NHL Central Scouting.
According to Sportsnet’s Sam Cosentino, “With size and a great skating foundation, (Robertson) will be tough to pass on late in the first round.”
