Rockets keep busy during off-day at MasterCard Memorial Cup
Rimouski, QC – One day removed for their big opening tournament victory over the Rimouski Oceanic at the 2009 MasterCard Memorial Cup, the Kelowna Rockets found themselves with two off days prior to their next game. They spent part of their Saturday skating at the Memorial Cup practice facility in Saint-Fabian, a small farming community of 1,500 located approximately 30 kilometers southwest of Rimouski. Before departing to practice the Rockets had a fairly relaxing morning which included a team breakfast at the Hotel Gouverneur.
Because the Rockets have a permanent dressing at the Colisee de Rimouski throughout the tournament, they fully dressed in their equipment (except skates) and loaded the team bus to and from the Saint-Fabian practice facility.
The rest of the day will include a late team lunch at their hotel, followed by watching game two of the MasterCard Memorial Cup between the OHL Champion Windsor Spitfires and the QMJHL Champion Drummondville Voltigeurs, not in person, but rather from their hotel room on RDS (French TSN) or in their hotel team room on the big screen with projector, where they can watch the Rogers Sportsnet broadcast of the game in English via the LIVE webcast.
The players will then wrap up their first off day dining at St. Hubert restaurant, a Quebec staple, which would be compared to a Swiss Chalet in western Canada, a fine way to wrap up the Rockets first tournament off-day.
The Kelowna Rockets will trek back to Saint-Fabian for practice tomorrow at 10:30am in preparation for their upcoming game Monday, May 18th against the Drummondville Voltigeurs at 7:00pm ET.
