Peyton Krebs inks entry-level contact, returns to Winnipeg ICE

Peyton Krebs is returning to the Western Hockey League.

The Winnipeg ICE captain and first-round selection of the Vegas Golden Knights at the 2019 NHL Draft had been recovering from a partially torn achilles tendon with the NHL club.

Before returning, the Golden Knights announced that Krebs had signed a three-year, entry-level contract.

“I’m looking forward to getting things going,” Krebs said. “The guys are having a good start here and I just want continue that success and hoping I can add another element to the team.”

Krebs, a 5-foot-11, 180-pound product of Okotoks, Alta., was chosen by the ICE with the first-overall selection at the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.

In 64 games last season, the 18-year-old recorded 68 points (19G-49A), including eight power-play goals and one game-winning goal. For his WHL career, Krebs has appeared in 137 WHL regular season games, posting 128 points (37G-91A), including 11 power-play goals and seven game-winning goals.

“I’m here and I’m ready to go,” Krebs continued. “I’m just going to be excited to step on the ice and play in the first game.”

Internationally, Krebs won gold at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and earned a silver medal with Canada Red at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

In 2019, Krebs captained Canada at the IIHF Under-18 World Championship and was named one of Canada’s top three players at the tournament.

The ICE return to action on Saturday, November 16 (7:05 p.m. PT) against the Everett Silvertips, but the ICE have announced that Krebs will make his season debut on Sunday, November 17 (5:00 p.m. PT) when the ICE take on the Portland Winterhawks.
