HURRICANES’ WONG NAMED WHL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Calgary, AB – The Western Hockey League announced today that Lethbridge Hurricanes forward Tyler Wong has been named the WHL Player of the Week for the week ending February 28th, 2016.
Wong recorded 10 points (3g-7a) in three games as the Lethbridge Hurricanes posted a 1-1-0-1 record for the week.
On Wednesday, February 24th against the Regina Pats, Wong recorded a career-high six points that included two goals and four assists in the Hurricanes 9-8 shootout loss to Regina. Wong was named the game’s second star for his performance. On Friday, February 26th against the Brandon Wheat Kings, Wong tallied an assist as the Hurricanes fell to the Wheat Kings by a score of 5-2. The following night, Wong earned second star honours as he collected three points (1g-2a) to lead the Hurricanes to an 8-4 victory over the Edmonton Oil Kings.
The 20-year-old Cochrane, AB native has collected 79 points (37g-42a) to go along with a plus-15 rating in 63 games this season and sits tied for eighth in scoring amongst all WHL skaters. The 5-9, 171 lb forward is in his fourth WHL campaign with Lethbridge and has amassed 179 points (86g-93a) in 239 career WHL regular season contests.
The WHL has also nominated Landon Bow of the Seattle Thunderbirdsfor the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Bow, a 1995-born netminder from St. Albert, AB posted a record of 2-0-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .962 save percentage with one shutout. On Friday, February 26th, Bow turned aside 27 shots to guide the Seattle Thunderbirds to a 4-2 victory against the Tri-City Americans. The following night against the Everett Silvertips, Bow stopped all 24 shots he faced to pick up the shutout as Seattle defeated Everett by a score of 2-0. Bow was named the game’s first star for his outing. Currently in his fourth WHL campaign, Bow has posted a 67-56-8-5 record with 14 shutouts in 153 career WHL regular season appearances.
