BLAZERS AND RAIDERS COMPLETE TRADE

Kamloops, BC – The Kamloops Blazers announced Saturday morning that they have acquired 20-year old RW Brandon Herrod from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for 17-year-old C Logan McVeigh and the Blazers’ 2^nd round draft pick in the 2012 Bantam Draft. 

“We are elated to add Brandon to our lineup.  He is an experienced leader – serving as captain of the Raiders – and was voted as their playoff MVP last season.  He is a proven scorer in our league and is known as a solid, character player.  He will be a welcome addition to our team, and with a career spanning 314 games in the WHL to date we expect to benefit greatly from his experience,” said Blazers General Manager Craig Bonner.

Herrod, who hails from Meadow Lake, SK, has compiled 18 goals and 18 assists in 40 games so far this season.  During his WHL career, he has tallied 106 goals and 135 assists for a total of 241 points.  The Blazers expect to have Herrod in their lineup as they host the Prince George Cougars at Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops on New Years Day.

Bonner continued, “in order to acquire a valuable player we had to give up one in Logan, and the Blazers wish him every success with his career in the future.”

Prince Albert SK – The Prince Albert Raiders have acquired 17-year-old forward Logan McVeigh and a 2^nd round pick in the 2012 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for 20-year-old forward Brandon Herrod.

McVeigh, who was drafted in the 2^nd round, 32^nd overall, in the 2009 WHL Bantam Draft by the Blazers has recorded 5 goals, 11 assists and 6 penalty minutes in 34 games this year. Last season, the Kenaston, Saskatchewan product notched 4 goals and 9 assists in 59 contests. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound sophomore played for the Saskatoon Contacts of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League prior to entering the WHL. In 39 games with the Contacts, McVeigh scored 20 goals and added 34 assists along with 36 penalty minutes.

“We are pleased to add a quality 17-year-old player in Logan. He will complement our young core of forwards currently on our roster and will be a big part of our team this year and in the future,” said Raiders General Manager Bruno Campese. “It’s tough to part with Brandon, who has been a consummate Raider for 5 years. We wish him well for the remainder of the season and in his future endeavours.”
