Winterhawks acquire rights to Seattle Kraken prospect Jugnauth
The Portland Winterhawks have acquired the rights to Seattle Kraken prospect Tyson Jugnauth from the Kamloops Blazers, in exchange for a collection draft picks.
The two teams announced the trade Wednesday afternoon.
In exchange for Jugnauth’s rights, the Blazers receive a second-round pick (2026 – Brandon Wheat Kings), a conditional second-round pick (2025), a third-round pick (2024) and a conditional sixth-round pick (2024).
Jugnauth, who was selected by the Kraken in the fourth round (100th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft, is currently with the University of Wisconsin. He was selected by the Blazers in the seventh round (147th overall) of the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft after originally being chosen by the Swift Current Broncos in the first round (21st overall) of the 2019 WHL Draft.
A product of Kelowna, the 6-foot, 162-pound Jugnauth is a left-shot defenceman in his second season with Wisconsin, having notched two assists in 13 contests. During his rookie campaign, he recorded 15 points (5G-10A) in 32 games.
Prior to joining Wisconsin, Jugnauth spent two seasons with the BCHL’s West Kelowna Warriors. He was named BCHL Top Defenceman in 2021-22 after posting 50 points (9G-41A) in 52 games.
The 19-year-old Jugnauth is described as an offensive defenceman with a smooth stride.
The Winterhawks return to action Friday, December 8 at 7 p.m. PT when they host the Spokane Chiefs.
