Warriors advance to Round Two of the 2024 WHL Playoffs Presented by Nutrien
For a third straight season, the Moose Jaw Warriors are advancing to the WHL Eastern Conference Semifinal.
The Warriors punched their ticket to Round Two by completing a sweep of the Wheat Kings (7-4, 5-4 OT, 6-4, 5-1).
Moose Jaw breezed past Brandon 5-1 in Game 4 on Thursday, April 4.
Buffalo Sabres prospect Matthew Savoie had a goal and an assist, while Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Denton Mateychuk, Lynden Lakovic, Rilen Kovacevic and Atley Calvert all recorded a goal and assist each.
Savoie led all skaters in the series with five goals, three assists and a +3 rating while Denton Mateychuk is tied for most points by a defenceman in the postseason with seven (two goals, five assists).
This is just the second time Moose Jaw has ever defeated Brandon in the playoffs and the first time the Warriors have done so since the 1997 postseason.
The Warriors are the second Eastern Conference team to advance to Round Two after Swift Current swept Lethbridge on Wednesday night.
